Job Description:

The Imaging team at Vertex Pharmaceuticals (which is part of the Translational Medicine function) is seeking an in vivo imaging research scientist to provide in vivo imaging expertise for projects preclinical projects. The successful candidate will bring hands-on laboratory experience in preclinical medical imaging, predominantly in SPECT, PET, and CT imaging. Projects will require imaging of multiple organ systems using the methods most suitable to monitor disease progression and response to drug treatment. Further, this researcher will be involved in the application of novel methods and must demonstrate a keen awareness of image acquisition, lab skills, and data visualization to help advance those methods. Vertex is a highly collaborative organization, so clear, concise, and accurate communication skills are a requirement.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and perform in vivo imaging experiments in coordination with other researchers
  • Ensure a safe and compliant laboratory environment
  • Acquire, store, analyze, and interpret imaging data
  • Author study reports and present data to researchers
  • Maintain electronic records of experimental procedures
  • Maintain imaging equipment including normalization scans, QC, and oversee the preventative maintenance programs
  • Interface with researchers, facilities, comparative medicine staff, and Global Information Services to maintain an operationally sound environment
  • Cross-train and be cross-trained on multiple imaging techniques

Qualification:

Minimum Qualifications
  • BS with 5+ years, MS with 2+ years or PhD with 1+ years of experience performing in vivo SPECT, PET, and/or CT imaging studies (preference in a industry setting)
  • A working understanding of image contrast agents and radiotracers
  • Hands-on experience with small animal handling, anesthesia, injections, blood/tissue collection, basic surgical models, and handling of radioactive materials
  • Image data visualization and analysis proficiency in at least one software package

Additional Qualifications:
  • Proficiency in basic statistical analysis
  • Proficiency in other in vivo imaging modalities (optical and US)
  • Working knowledge of imaging computing infrastructure (e.g. PACS)
  • Scripting in at least one language (e.g. Python) at an intermediate proficiency level
  • Experience across multiple therapeutic areas
