Alliance College-Ready Public Schools is the largest nonprofit charter school organization in Los Angeles, serving nearly 13,000 low-income scholars across 25 tuition-free public middle and high schools on 28 campuses. Alliance has a proven record of success: though our scholars come to Alliance on average four grade-levels behind in reading, 95% of Alliance graduates have been accepted to college—including 77% to a four-year university in 2017. ROLE SUMMARY
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Director of Strategic Initiatives (DSI) on the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) team is responsible for leading and implementing priority initiatives to advance Alliance’s objectives, and focuses on the organizational strategy, data strategy, and organization and executive management functions at the Alliance. The DSI works closely with the CEO and Alliance’s executive leadership team. This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced project manager with strong quantitative and strategic thinking skills who wants to join a result-oriented, mission-driven organization.


ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Project Management

  • Lead and shepherd key strategic projects (annual strategic planning and budgeting cycle; charter renewal) in close collaboration with the Chief of Staff, and work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and other team leaders to support the Alliance’s core goals.
  • Manage the monitoring, tracking, and support of Organizational Priorities and preparation for Executive Team meetings, which is the key platform to monitor organization-wide progress. Improve and iterate on the monitoring and tracking system as necessary.
  • Provide project management of cross-functional issues (e.g. develop process-map for cross-departmental communications challenges), especially those requiring rapid-response or other issue resolution (e.g. manage across teams to meet external deadlines from LAUSD or other key stakeholders), develop project plans and conduct data analyses.
     

Leadership and Advising

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the Chief of Staff on cross-departmental projects, opportunities for cross-collaboration, process improvement and problem solving.
  • Lead and prepare for CEO Team meetings and work to support a strong team culture, support and awareness of the team’s work, and monitor progress against the team’s goals.
  • Lead the preparation for, and provide logistic support for, quarterly Alliance Board of Directors meetings and Board of Directors committee meetings, including developing memos, Powerpoint presentations, spreadsheets, and communications to participants.
  • Collaborate with the Chief of Staff and the Alliance Director of Employee Relations & Engagement to design an arc of Home Office engagement opportunities including all-staff meetings, all-staff newsletter, staff recognition programs and social activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to work effectively in a multi-layered organization and build strong relationships with a variety of individuals including teachers, coaches, school leaders, parents, vendors and other Home Office and school-based colleagues
  • Exceptional project management skills with strong attention to detail and ability to efficiently and simultaneously manage multiple projects
  • Strong analytic and systems thinking necessary to interpret data to inform goals and strategy, as well as build infrastructure where none exists
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Google-based applications
  • Entrepreneurial spirit to thrive in a fast-paced and achievement-oriented environment
  • Willingness to go above and beyond to contribute to the success of a dynamic team committed to a new future for urban education

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university is required, and advanced degree is preferred.
  • At least five (5) years of full-time work experience in the education management field is required, or an equivalent combination of formal training and work experience will be considered.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
Alliance offers competitive pay commensurate with experience, as well as an employer-sponsored 403b retirement plan with an annual contribution equal to 5% of regular earnings, and a comprehensive group health benefits package, including medical, dental and vision coverage.
