Bain Capital Life Sciences ( focuses on investment opportunities in the human therapeutics, diagnostics and enabling life science tools space. This includes companies in the traditional pharmaceutical, specialty pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, life-science tools and other technology enabling sectors. The Life Sciences team models its investment approach on Bain Capital’s proven investment method to develop differentiated insight and drive change to enable the next phase of financial and technical/scientific growth for target companies. The investment strategy focuses on four archetypes of investments: inflection capital, growth capital, fallen angels, and larger private equity, with an emphasis on pre-clinical research, strategic positioning, competitive dynamics, business model sustainability, and management team alignment and capability. The investment professionals of Bain Capital Life Sciences provide significant ongoing strategic and operational support to these companies, seeking to not only generate consistently strong returns, but to enable inflection and growth for life sciences companies.



We are currently seeking an Associate to join a growing and very dynamic Boston-based team. Associates work directly with senior Life Sciences investment staff to support the generation of new investment ideas, conduct due diligence for new investments, and help support existing investments. A successful candidate will be able to understand, interpret, and integrate information from diverse therapeutic areas in order to reach investment conclusions. It will also be important for candidates to understand business principles and market dynamics in the drug and medical device sectors. Associates have broad exposure to company managements, investor conferences, and the research process that professional investors utilize to make investments and recommendations.


Specific responsibilities may include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Conducting due diligence calls with physicians and other consultants

  • Attending scientific and medical conferences and provide actionable updates

  • Performing market analysis and building therapeutic market and financial models

  • Developing and fielding industry surveys and undertaking a wide array of industry analyses and competitive assessments

  • Support team in preparation for Investment Committee materials and investment decisions

  • Work with existing portfolio companies to support management teams



  • Candidates must be in final year of Ph.D and/or MD program from top-tier University or already has a Ph.D and/or MD degree. Preference for candidates with major or extensive coursework in biomedical or chemical sciences
  • Two to three years of professional experience at a top-tier investment bank, venture capital firm, or consulting firm with a healthcare focus. Candidates with two to three years of pre-doctoral industry experiences in life sciences will also be considered
  • Strong preference for candidates with experience in drug development and R&D
